EU-GDPR outside the EU

To what extent non-EU companies are affected and where it becomes relevant

Avoid hefty fines and intensive time investment in advance – we assist you and keep you up to date in the field of European data protection.

As experts, we evaluate

… which data protection laws you are affected by and which measures need to be taken.

What is the GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) secures digital privacy and the right to informational self-determination of European citizens. The GDPR applies regardless where the processing takes place or where the processing company is located, as soon as personal data of EU citizens is processed.

Companies that process personal data of EU citizens therefore have to comply with a range of requirements – even if they are located outside of the European Union. For example, a suitable contact person must be appointed as contact point for concerns relating to data protection, known as the EU-representative. Companies that have a business establishment in the EU may also be required to appoint a data protection officer under certain circumstances. In addition, suitable protective measures must always be in place when processing personal data to prevent possible misuse of data.
